Wilton Manors (Ft Lauderdale), FL, April 2, 2009_________________ The ELLEN CHARAPKO GALLERY will present a Solo Exhibition of the latest works of Canadian artist, Virginia Fifield. PNEUMATIKOS, Works on Paper, will be on display from April 17th through May 24, 2009.

The public is invited to the gallery for a reception with the artist on Friday, Apr 17, 2009, 7 – 10 p.m.

Virginia Fifield’s artwork is a stunning surprise, rich in style, execution and passion. Throughout her body of work are contemporary depictions of animals that emit an inner spirit that will stop you in your tracks. Fifield has the ability to draw you into their apprehensions, moods, desires and inner beauty. The twinkling light in the eye of a dog, the strength and majesty of a horse and the tension between the desires of the human master opposed to the independence of the animals, are all perceived in her magnificent charcoals. The charcoals, devoid of color, are powerful in subject matter and impact. Larger than life works on paper will enable you to view animals from a fresh and unique perspective.

Virginia Fifield, originally from Toronto, Canada, studied at Banff School of Fine Arts and York University. An award winning artist, Fifield has exhibited her artwork since 1979 in Canada and the United States. Her animal works have increasingly gained popularity among avid collectors throughout both countries.

"Because I work in realism, people sometimes think my drawings are photos. They are attracted to my work because it is so large scale and boldly contemporary. It is my intention, using my technique, to encourage people to think on a new scale about these creatures and consider our relationship with them, since we all share the same planet together.”______Virginia Fifield
